We will be using the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), History style format.
Here is a sample paper using this format.

• Telegraphic (outline) style preferred but narrative acceptable.

• Typed, 11-12 pt. font, double spaced, formated for standard (8½ x 11) paper.

• At least one inch margin on each side, top and bottom.

• Indent approximately one-half inch (~5-6 space) at the beginning of each paragraph,

• You do not need a title page.   Place your document title and full name centered at the beginning of your text.

• Enter your last name in the top right corner of each page header.

• Number each page after the first at the center of the footer.

• Each source you use to support your thesis needs to be documented.   Each such citation needs to be marked in your text with a separate, sequential number, EVEN IF THAT RESOURCE HAS BEEN CITED BEFORE.

• Use the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), History style for documenting citations.

Use superscript numbers (preferred) or numbers within parentheses to mark citations within the text.   DO NOT USE ROMAN NUMERALS FOR CITATIONS.

List the cited documents in end notes (i.e., at the end of the paper but in the same format as footnotes).   These notes should be single spaced with a blank line between each note.

Begun your notes on a new page that does not count against any page limit.

Your notes do not count against any word limits.

Note in the sample paper (downloadable at top) how the citation numbers are handled in the text and in the end notes.

Note also the thesis statement (overview) in the first section.

• It will not be necessary to include the date you accessed a Web site.

• A separate bibliography of resources used is not required.   If you decide to include a bibliography, create it as a separate page following the end notes   The bibliography will not count against your page limit.
