The goal of systems research is to elicit the principles underlying the development and use of complex parallel and distributed software/hardware systems. Our research approach is experimental, drawing on expertise in measurement, modeling, language constructs, static methods like compilation and dynamic methods like scheduling.

The Systems Group's faculty are located both in the College of Computing and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, sharing selected research facilities and with the CERCS research center providing a vehicle for joint work.
