Computer Science Minor Eligibility, Online Application, and FAQs

Students must complete an application and be accepted into the CS Minor program. Please do not submit a change of minor form unless instructed. The change of minor form alone is not an application for the program.

Attending a live Q&A session is strongly encouraged before applying.

Policies and Eligibility:

  • Must be in good academic standing (Student is not on academic warning or probation; is maintaining satisfactory academic progress.)
  • Must have successfully completed CS 1301, CS 1315, or CS 1371 with a grade of “B” or higher, or earned transfer credit
  • Must have successfully completed CS 1331 with a grade of “B” or higher or earned transfer credit
  • Computational Data Analysis minor applicants must have successfully completed mathematics through Calculus III (MATH 2550 or 2551)
  • Scientific and Engineering Computing minor applicants must have successfully completed mathematics through Differential Equations (MATH 2552)
  • Some majors are ineligible to apply and declare a CS Minor:
    • Students pursuing Computer Science, Computational Media, and Mathematics and Computing may not declare any CS minor
    • Students pursuing a Computer Engineering major (catalog year 2021-2022 and later) may not select any CS minor
    • Students pursuing a Mathematics major may not select the Theory minor
    • Students pursuing a Computer Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering major may not select the Devices or Information Internetworks minors
    • Students pursuing an Industrial Engineering major may not select the Computational Data Analysis minor

Please note: While there is no longer a minimum remaining credit hour requirement for admission to the CS minor program, students should carefully consider their academic plan before applying. A CS minor typically takes at least 3 to 4 semesters (excluding summer terms) to complete due to course sequencing, prerequisite requirements, and course availability. Students are encouraged to review the minor requirements and assess how the additional coursework aligns with their graduation timeline.

Monday, August 17, 2026, to Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 11:59 AM (EST)

  • No late applications accepted. 
  • No applications will be reviewed until the deadline passes and the review period begins.
  • Be sure to review the application for correctness and save a copy of your application submission.
  • Students who submit a completed application will be notified by email with their admissions decision TBA.
