‘Yellow Jacket Swarm’ Visualizes Georgia Tech’s Impact at Upcoming CHI 2026

Georgia Tech is capturing international attention as its researchers earn early recognition ahead of next month’s ACM CHI 2026 conference, the premier event in human-computer interaction (HCI).

The annual conference will take place from April 13 to 17 in Barcelona. This year, HCI experts from the College of Computing and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts will receive nine awards for papers accepted to the conference. These include two best paper awards and seven honorable mentions, showing the Institute’s continued influence in HCI.

To highlight and celebrate these achievements, GT Computing has developed a new interactive data visualization. The tool is designed to showcase the Institute's impact by mapping award-winning contributors as a “Yellow Jacket Swarm,” helping viewers understand the scope and significance of Georgia Tech's presence at CHI 2026. The visualization:

  • Highlights authors across the nine recognized papers
  • Allows users to explore details through interactive features
  • Organizes papers by Georgia Tech involvement level and team size

Seven of the nine honored papers feature contributors from Georgia Tech’s College of Computing, including both best paper-winning projects.

One award-winning best paper, led by HCI graduate student Tanmaie Kailash and Assistant Professor Cindy Lin, presents empirical research on Singapore's data centers, showing how the country treats them as strategic assets that drive digital leadership and sustainability.

Associate Professor Andrea Grimes Parker co-authored the other best paper, in collaboration with Google Research. The paper analyzes how the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare affects equity and access for marginalized communities.

Additional details about Georgia Tech’s presence and its award-winning research at CHI 2026 will be released in early April.
