Professor Kearse’s research interests focus on computing education, with an emphasis on experiential learning, curriculum development, and the integration of emerging technologies into foundational computing courses. Her work highlights the creation of effective learning environments that build student confidence and support the development of strong technical foundations.

Professor Kearse’s teaching centers on foundational and applied computing courses that build student confidence, strengthen technical skills, and connect classroom learning to real‑world practice. Her teaching spans introductory computer science, computing literacy with Python, and hands‑on interdisciplinary experiences that prepare students for STEAM‑focused pathways in higher education and industry. Professor Kearse’s approach is deeply student‑focused, emphasizing mentorship, current and emerging technologies, and opportunities for experiential learning through innovative initiatives and applied computing activities. Her goal is to cultivate supportive and rigorous learning environments that encourage student achievement, deepen understanding, and strengthen computational problem‑solving skills.
