Dean's Dispatch: April 7, 2026
The Graduate CS Rankings has historically included rankings in the following four specialty areas, and here is where we stand on that front.
- #5 in Artificial Intelligence (previously #6)
- #15 in Programming Languages (previously #13)
- #6 in Systems (previously #4)
- #13 in Theory (previously #12)
Overall, I would like to thank all faculty, staff, and students for your hard work in contributing to the external reputation of our College. There is so much that we do that is not captured in this ranking, including our being foremost in CS Masters education with our OMSCS program, our leadership in multiple areas of the Computing discipline beyond those listed above, and our amazing community that I am so proud of. Keep up your great work, and I am confident that our external reputation and ranking will continue to rise in the future.
On that note, I have good news to share from our community, as always:
- I encourage you to read this profile of Academic Advisor Briana Lampert. Briana used to teach fourth grade, and she just reunited with two of her former elementary school students who have started their degrees at Tech — one of whom she’s now advising! Thank you for all your contributions to educating our youth, Briana!
- CHI starts next week on April 14, and we are sending people from all five schools — in fact, there are more than 110 Tech researchers attending, with all five of our schools represented. Learn more about the program and the research at our CHI microsite.
- Jennifer Kim and Mark Riedl (both IC) were interviewed by GPB about the LLM they’ve built as a career coach for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Thank you for leading this important work, Jennifer and Mark, and for sharing it with the public!
We’re in the final stretch of the academic year right now, and I hope everyone stays strong for the finish. Please take care of yourself as we push forward toward graduation.
