International Certification and Designation for Undergraduates

Georgia Tech offers both an Internatonal Certification and Designation for College of Computing undergraduates.

Global Engagement Certificate: 

The Global Engagement Certificate builds on students’ international experiences to form a cohesive 12-hour credit certificate.

To earn the Global Engagement Certificate, a student must:

  • Complete 6 academic credit hours on a study, internship, or research abroad program.

  • Apply for the Certificate HERE

 

International Plan (IP) Degree Designation:

To earn the IP designation, a CoC student completes the following:

  • Apply to be a part of the International Plan
  • Go abroad for 26 weeks via two international programs that connect cohesively (ex, same country, or studying the same subject in two countries)
  • Use Social Science and Humanities electives to take three globally oriented courses (or 9 credits) chosen from this list: International Plan Courses.
  • Show foreign language proficiency through the 2002 level
  • Complete the required IP Capstone component in your CS Ethics Requirement* (CS 4001/CS 4002/CS 4726/SLS 3110), as a special research problem (CS 4901), or in the Georgia Tech Europe Seminar Course, INTA 4500.
  • Have a 2.7 GPA upon entering and completing the program

*With this option, the student completes a specialized assignment in addition to their CS 4001/4002/4726 or SLS 3110 coursework. The assignment must examine one of the issues discussed in the course from two perspectives: the U.S. and the country whose language and culture the student is learning. The assignment is evaluated by the course instructor and David Joyner, Associate Dean, College of Computing.

Amber Ephraim was one of the first Computing students to graduate with an International Plan certification.
