Junior Design Updates – Spring 2025

Junior Design Threads

There are four main pathways for completing the Junior Design requirement:

OPTION 1: Project Class
OPTION 2: VIP (Vertically Integrated Project)
OPTION 3: Research Option
OPTION 4: Start-up/Entrepreneurial Option

Important Notes:

  • Students must commit to and complete a single option. You cannot mix between them once started.
  • Permits and approvals are essential and vary by course.

CS 3311 & CS 3312 (Project Class Path)

  • Restricted to CS & CM majors.
  • Permit required for CS 3312.
  • Registration procedures for Spring 2024 provided by instructors and the JD coordinator.

LMC 3403 (Communication Component)

  • Students completing LMC 3403 must follow special permit request procedures.
  • Sections CS1–CS9, CX1, and CX2 are permit-only, and restricted to Spring 2024 CS/CM degree candidates who submitted their Online Application for Graduation (OAG) by October 4, 2023.
  • CS 3803 TC (approved substitute for Spring 2024) is available as an alternative by permit only.
  • Only request one: either LMC 3403 or CS 3803. Students may not register for both.

Permit Notes:

  • Enter “Spring 2024 DC” in the reason box.
  • Max 3 permits for LMC 3403 OR 1 for CS 3803 TC.

  • Permits reviewed once per business day.
  • Permits denied if:
    • Reason code is missing/incorrect.
    • Student does not have a Spring 2024 OAG.
  • Permits pending if:
    • OAG submitted after Oct. 4 (priority given to earlier applicants).
    • Late applicants will get additional guidance later.
